What is The Hall Technique?
The Hall Technique was developed as a way to treat cavities in young children without removing the decay, which can involve uncomfortable drilling or scary needle injections. By placing the crown over the affected tooth, our dentist can slow or halt the spread of decay until your child’s permanent tooth comes in to replace it. This means we can preserve the natural structure of your child’s tooth and make for a more comfortable treatment experience.
The Hall Technique may require multiple visits. Here is what you can expect:
- Our doctor will perform an exam and take X-rays to evaluate the condition of your child’s tooth. If there isn’t enough space between your child’s teeth to place the crown, our doctor may place separators to create the necessary space.
- Once our doctor determines the correct size and fit for your child’s crown, it will be cemented directly to the tooth. This will restore the shape and function of your child’s tooth, allowing them to chew normally.
- We will schedule a follow-up appointment to check the condition of your child’s Hall Technique crown.
What are the Benefits of the Hall Technique?
Is the Hall Technique right for your child? It depends on your child’s dental health and the condition of their tooth. Our doctor will perform a thorough examination to determine if your child will benefit from this procedure. Here are some of the advantages of the Hall Technique:
- Children are more relaxed and comfortable during and after treatment
- It has a 97% success rate
- It does not require local anesthesia or drilling
Many children and parents prefer this restoration treatment, as it avoids the discomfort associated with a traditional filling or other crown placement techniques.
